What is HIV?

     It is the causative virus of AIDS. The HIV-word is an acronym for "Human Immunodeficiency Virus" the definition of each of these words is:

     Virus: etiologic agent of infection.

     Immunodeficiency: This virus attacks the immune system or defense, ie the system that defends the body against the action of harmful agents such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, etc..

     Human: This virus only attacks humans, has not reported its action in mice.

     All humans are susceptible to contracting HIV, which is why we speak of universal vulnerability, since this virus can be transmitted regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation or economic status.
